French Interior Minister Gerald Darmanin said on Saturday: “The police have just bravely arrested an attacker who attacked passers-by in Paris, around the Quai de Grenelle. One deceased and one injured were treated by firefighters from “Paris. Please avoid the area.” “
The man used a knife and a hammer during the attack, according to the daily mail.
The outlet added: “Last night the attacker slashed a victim, a tourist with dual German and Filipino nationality, on the back and shoulder. The man, who had not been identified, was found in cardiopulmonary arrest before he died.”
The report said another victim was a British tourist walking in Paris with his wife.
A third victim was reportedly seriously injured after being attacked with a hammer by the suspect.
The suspect shouted “Allahu Akbar” (“God is greater”) before being arrested, according to multiple reports.
The suspect was arrested shortly after the assault near the crime scene when police used a stun gun to subdue the man.
The suspect is reportedly a 26-year-old French citizen who was on the watch list of the French security services. In 2016, the alleged attacker was sentenced to four years in prison for planning another attack, according to the bbc.
