Cher and boyfriend Alexander “A.E.” Edwards are having a tough time amid their romance, and sources exclusively tell In Touch that she’s been irritable and clingy while he’s finding her annoying and needing a break more than he ever has.
“They’re still together but spending more time apart. She’s cooped up in that mansion of hers in Malibu and keeping to herself after all that drama with [son] Elijah [Blue Allman] that just got settled, but she’s still testy and tired and demanding as hell, questioning his every move,” the source tells In Touch about the “Believe” singer, 78. “This is paranoia to A.E. and he grumbles she’s not giving him room to breathe.”
In January, Cher’s request for a conservatorship over Elijah’s estate was denied by a judge. He has made headlines in recent years amid his substance abuse struggles.
The insider adds that A.E., 38, finds Cher’s behavior “overbearing,” while “she wonders if he was really that young prince that she thought he was.”
“She needs more from him and has been acting needy and he’s pulling away. People are whispering they’re fizzling out, which is inevitable,” the source continues. “The feeling among their friends is, they never really were a well-suited couple for the long term even if she does a good job dragging him out to silence the rumors now and then.”
When reached for comment, a rep for Cher said this is “very not true.”
Cher and A.E. first met in October 2022 when they both attended Paris Fashion Week. The couple made their romance public in November of that year, and they made their red carpet debut while attending the Versace fashion show in Los Angeles in March 2023.
In May 2023, Us Weekly confirmed that Cher and A.E. had called it quits after six months of dating. “A.E. and Cher were never engaged and that ring he got her was just a gift,” a source told the outlet at the time, referencing rumors that they had gotten engaged after the music producer bought Cher a ring. “However, they had gotten very close and his son would even go over to Cher’s house in Malibu to play. Their relationship was real and they split a few weeks ago. There’s no bad blood between them and they’re on good terms.”
Despite cooling things off, their split didn’t last long and the pair rekindled their romance in September 2023.
While Cher and A.E. have faced backlash for their age gap, the “If I Could Turn Back Time” singer previously shared a humorous story about how their differing ages can cause problems when they communicate. “Sometimes I’m talking to him and he has no idea who I’m talking about,” she told Extra in October 2023. “The other day, I said, ‘Do you know who, I don’t know, Clark Gable [is]?’ Somebody said, ‘Yes, of course,’ but most of my references … He’ll look at me and go, ‘I wasn’t born yet.’”
She then said that they “have a great time together” and “can talk [about] music.”
“We can talk about everything. He’s got a great sense of humor, he’s got the cutest son in the world, ever,” Cher gushed. “We just get each other.”
