90 Day Fiance’s Paola Weighs In on Big Ed’s Engagement (Excl)

90 Day Fiancé star Paola Mayfield may not keep up with the franchise, but she has some strong opinions about former castmate Ed “Big Ed” Brown doing major things to say “relevant,” she exclusively tells In Touch.

Paola, 37, considers herself one of the “OG” stars of the franchise and admitted the show has seemingly drifted off from its roots.

“Right now, I don’t know. The only thing that I found out is, like, Ed got engaged again, So I was like …. that was just crazy,” she tells In Touch in a video interview. “Not even with a real ring.”

She continues, “I don’t know. I feel like sometimes, it’s just people do a lot of stuff just to be relevant. And it’s just crazy. I wish her luck.”

Ed, 59, announced his engagement to Porscha Raemond less than 24 hours following their first meeting in September. The pair met at a fan meet and greet in Florida, and after experiencing “love at first sight,” they went out for a romantic dinner the following day. After Big Ed realized that Porscha had all the qualities he was looking for in a future wife, he proposed with a paperclip ring.

“I get down on one knee and everyone goes crazy. The restaurant was freaking out,” the 90 Day: The Single Life star recalled to Page Six at the time. “I said, ‘Look I never want to let you go. I think I met The One. I want to marry you.’ And she said, ‘Yes,’ and we hugged and we kissed.”

Less than a week after announcing his engagement, a rep for Big Ed confirmed to In Touch that the TLC wasn’t heading down the aisle anytime soon.

“I wanted to take a moment to address some recent developments in my personal life,” his rep said on behalf of Ed in an exclusive statement on September 23. “As many of you know, I recently proposed in what was a whirlwind and admittedly, a very impulsive moment.”

The 90 Day Fiancé: Happily Ever After? alum said that “after some deep reflection and discussions” with those closest to him, he realized “rushing” into the engagement wasn’t the “right move.”

Paola teased a possible return to the 90 Day Fiancé franchise but says there’s not a lot of drama to share with viewers. She tells In Touch that she was in a better place in her marriage to Russ Mayfield after a rough few years.

“I’m so happy for that because, to be honest, I went through hell to be what I am right now and my relationship is doing much better,” she explains. “I’m glad that my life is not falling apart. It was at a point, to the point where we were talking about divorce with Russ and all that stuff, but I’m glad we worked through that.”

Paola and Russ, 37, made their debut on 90 Day Fiancé season 1, which aired on TLC from January to February 2014. The show documented Paola, originally from Colombia, as she adjusted to life in Russ’s small Oklahoma hometown. Since then, the couple has continued to share the highs and lows of their relationship in spinoffs like 90 Day Fiancé: Happily Ever After?, 90 Day Fiancé: Self-Quarantined, 90 Day Fiancé: Pillow Talk, and 90 Day Fiancé: Love Games.
