13-year-old killed, another teen critically injured in separate NYC subway surfing stunts gone wrong: cops

A 13-year-old boy was killed and an older teen was critically injured in separate subway surfing mishaps in the Bronx early Friday — the latest victims of the troublesome trend, according to police and sources.

The younger teen fell off a northbound 6-train between the Westchester Square and Middletown Road stations in Pelham just before 9 a.m., cops and the sources said.

He was found unconscious and unresponsive in the street beneath the elevated tracks.

The teen was declared dead at the scene.

Hours earlier, a 15-year-old boy was seriously injured while riding on top of another northbound 6 train at the Morris Ave.-Soundview station in Soundview, according to police.

The 15-year-old was taken to Jacobi Hospital in critical condition, cops said.

The pair of incidents come just days after a 14-year-old boy was critically injured subway surfing in Queens.

The reckless teen was riding atop a southbound 7 train on Sunday when his head struck a beam as the train pulled into the 111th Street Station just before 4:30 p.m., police said.

The boy was rushed to Elmhurst Hospital in stable condition, cops said.

Subway surfing has emerged as a dangerous trend for thrill-seeking teens who film themselves and post the videos on social media.

MTA statistics show there were 450 reports of people riding outside of trains, including on top of them, during the first six months of 2023 — a stark increase from 262 reported over the same time period in 2019.
