Trump’s IRS settlement: Letters

The Issue: Trump’s $1.776 billion settlement with the IRS used for an Anti-Weaponization Fund.
We all heard that President Trump dropped his $10 billion personal lawsuit against himself, as president and boss of the Justice Department, and got a $1.8 billion taxpayer-funded slush fund for the Capitol rioters (“$1.776B ‘bias’ fund,” May 19).
But now, we find out that he also got a provision barring the government from pursuing tax claims against Trump, his family and his businesses. Boy, he sure can negotiate — especially when it’s with himself and it involves taxpayer money.

This is the most corrupt administration in history. Using government funds to pay off supporters to the tune of almost $1.8 billion — approved by a Justice Department controlled by Trump — is an affront to all Americans.

President Trump reportedly plans to use some of his over $1.8 billion settlement with the IRS to reward some of the insurrectionists who stormed the US Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021.
When I heard that, I quickly thought of Adolf Hitler — who, after gaining control of Germany, in 1934 created The Blood Order medal, a silver medallion awarded to Nazis who participated in the infamous failed Beer Hall Putsch in 1923.
I used to joke with my friends that Washington, DC, in 2026 is starting to resemble Berlin in 1933. Today, I’ve stopped joking.

“Crime doesn’t pay,” runs the old line. But now Trump says, “Crime will pay” — or at least the government is planning to pay the Jan. 6 rioters. They are not innocent victims and should not be paid. America is heading the wrong way.

We have two new cons from Trump. First, he wants to financially reward, with our tax money, the criminals that he pardoned for partaking in the insurrection on Jan. 6, including those who have been arrested again for various horrific crimes.
Then he wants a deal in place where the IRS can’t look at his taxes or his family’s.
Meanwhile, our country is going to hell, and dictator Trump couldn’t care less.

The Issue: Union funding for American Federation of Teachers chief Randi Weingarten’s new book.
What a surprise that Randi Weingarten, the president of the American Federation of Teachers, tapped and used $1.4 million in her union’s resources to write her book (“Weingarten’s Pricey Book $cam,” Editorial, May 19).
That is completely outrageous and she needs to answer for it. Who does she think she is that she can touch this kind of money for her own personal benefit?
She’s nothing more than a loudmouth and a rebel who’s gotten caught with her hand in the cookie jar. The book should be suspended and destroyed.

Weingarten was never really a teacher. She’s a lawyer who did limited teaching to qualify for union membership so she could take over as president of NYC’s United Federation of Teachers. She’s never been anything but a self-serving fraud.

Weingarten writes a fairy tale about fascists and how they try to take over the educational system. The true tale is how Weingarten and her union have taken over the system, and she runs it like a true dictatorship.
It’s a shame that more than half of the students being taught by members of her union won’t be able to read the book since they haven’t learned how to read.
