That Famous Falls Park “Aroma” Is About to Be History

Smithfield to move from downtown Sioux Falls location
Sanford will be donating $50 million dollars to help the Sioux Falls Development Foundation to help take over the current site.
Sioux Falls Mayor Paul TenHaken announced the surrounding space that was taken up by Smithfield will now become a new district in downtown called the “Sanford District.”
“If you take the Smithfield footprint and lay it over our existing downtown it basically goes from KELO to Startup Sioux Falls, Argus over to the viaduct, that’s what 120 acres looks like, so its a whole other downtown,” TenHaken said.
TenHaken added this will expand downtown Sioux Falls to around 120 acres.
“This new downtown will be very aptly named, we have the east bank, we have our existing downtown and now were going to have the Sanford District at this new 120 acres,” TenHaken said.
