New York City’s triathlon makes a triumphant return as endurance fanatics brave the Hudson River: Photos

The city’s only swim-bike-run event returned on Saturday October 10, 2026. Now called the Big Apple Triathlon saw 1,300 endurance enthusiasts take on the challenging course through the Hudson River (1500m swim), along the West Side Highway (24.8 mile bike) and into Central Park (6.2 mile run).

The race, formerly known as the New York City Triathlon, has been around since 2001. But its recent history is notoriously choppy, soured by scheduling snafus and weather woes.
