Mamdani’s war on the wealthy: Letters

The Issue: Mayor Mamdani driving billionaires’ businesses, like Ken Griffin’s Citadel, out of NYC.

Mayor Mamdani, America gives every individual the opportunity to be successful — it’s called working hard for what you want. Being white and rich does not make a person bad (“NYC will pay for Mam’s rich ba$h,” Michael Goodwin, May 10) .

The mayor should stop pretending like he is part of the poor community and — rather than trying to make wealthy people like Ken Griffin look like monsters — he should teach low-income youth how they one day can also be a wealthy success.

Shelling out a few extra dollars in taxes shouldn’t be such a hardship for crybabies like Griffin. Those few extra dollars represent a mere drop in the bucket for these fat cats.

But if they want to leave the Big Apple for greener and cheaper pastures, all I can say is “good riddance.” There will be plenty of new billionaires willing to take their places.

As a staunch supporter of Mamdani, I support his “tax the rich” agenda to help fund social programs and benefit the less fortunate among us. Only the selfish would object to this.

Ideologues like Mamdani do not listen to reason, even when the sky is falling on them. It’s always someone else’s fault — the rich, the corporations or President Trump.

New Yorkers voted for their own destruction, so they need to change just as much as Mamdani. Good luck with that.

The exodus of major businesses in New York City has begun. But if the top 1% of taxpayers pay the majority of taxes and you run them off, who is going to replace them?

Capitalism and socialism cannot coexist. Socialism doesn’t build wealth — it discourages business growth and uses others’ money to fund itself.

Addressing affordability is a matter of policy changes; taxing the rich is no fix. It seems Mamdani and other socialists are not familiar with how city finances work.

Mamdani could learn a lot from my dog: You don’t bite the hand that feeds you.

Mamdani vilifying the wealthy puts a target on their backs and provides an unstable person the rationale for causing harm. It is not far-fetched in this age of assassinations.

Griffin is an extraordinary philanthropist. I wouldn’t be surprised, nor would I blame him, if he pulls the rest of Citadel’s business out of New York.

The Issue: Rep. AOC saying her “ambition is to change this country,” not run for president.

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez’s Miss America runway speech of how she’ll change America fell short (“I want to change US: AOC,” May 11).

She failed to realize that not everyone is on board with her socialist agenda. She also totally misinterpreted the Founding Fathers of this country, saying they were against “billionaires of their time.”

Between her phony “tax the rich” Met Gala gown and her jaunt to Miami during COVID, it’s hard to know who the real AOC is.

I give her very low marks and don’t think she’ll even make runner-up in the contest. There must be someone better.

So, AOC wants to change this country. I cannot get over how she latches onto things. She’s like one of those fish who attaches themselves to a shark — except she attached herself to Bernie Sanders.

Does she not realize that what she says labels her as anti-American?
