I listened to Kristi Noem’s speech at the unveiling of her statue in Pierre today, and was impressed but I couldn’t help but see right through it. She repeatedly invoked the names of God and Jesus, making sure to highlight the moments she claims to have prayed with others in private—conveniently making those private moments public just to pat herself on the back for the world to see. But why should I be surprised? I’ve seen that exact same performance from plenty of pastors whose true character was eventually exposed.
During her speech, social media flooded with childish, derogatory cheap shots that added nothing to the conversation. But looking past the noise, valid and serious questions remain. How does someone who professes the name of Jesus reconcile that faith with her personal life? She remains married—even if the marriage is on the rocks—yet carries on with a man who is also married with young children. Both alleged lovers are still bound by marriage vows. This is the breakup of two families. Does that seem Christian to you?
This is also the same person who claimed in her book that she met Kim Jong Un, only to be caught in a bold lie. Does manufacturing stories for profit sound like the behavior of someone walking with the Lord? Does governing with an iron fist, driven by a spiteful and vindictive temperament, mirror the teachings of Christ?
There is an old saying: “Preach the Gospel at all times. Use words if necessary.” Kristi Noem is certainly good with words, but her actions speak volumes.
