Jamie Foxx ‘Started to Withdraw’ From Alyce Huckstepp Before Split

Jamie Foxx ended his romance with Alyce Huckstepp on good terms, but a source exclusively tells In Touch that the Burial star is known for pulling away from romantic relationships once things get serious.
“Jamie will always be grateful for everything Alyce did for him and the way she stood by him, and they were madly in love at one point,” the insider says. “But, as is often the case with Jamie when he gets that close to a woman, something inside of him gets triggered that causes him to withdraw. He’s a classic love avoidant. He wants to get really close, he love bombs, all that stuff, and he genuinely believes it at the moment.”
The source adds that Jamie, 57, “talked a lot about marrying Alyce, and this time, people believed him because he’d had this whole life awakening after getting sick and almost dying.”
In April 2023, Jamie’s daughter Corinne Foxx revealed that her father had been hospitalized as a result of an unspecified medical emergency. The comedian kept the details of his illness under wraps until his December 2024 Netflix comedy special, Jamie Foxx: What Had Happened Was…, where he revealed that he had experienced a brain bleed that led to a hemorrhagic stroke.
The source shares that Jamie “did seem to be in a different place” after he recovered from his health scare.
“But then he started to withdraw and push [Alyce] away,” the insider continues. “It’s the same thing he’s done to numerous other women before her because, at the end of the day, he’s a commitment-phobe. All his talk about how he wanted a completely different life and to settle down and find the one seems to be just that, talk.”
While the split baffled Jamie’s pals, as the two were talking about marriage and babies not long ago, the insider says now his friends are hoping he doesn’t come to regret letting her slip through his fingers.
Multiple sources confirmed Jamie and Alyce’s split to People on January 23.
The former couple first sparked dating rumors in August 2023, four months after Jamie suffered his stroke while filming the Netflix movie Back in Action with Cameron Diaz. At the time, Jamie and Alyce, 30, were spotted dining with a group of people at Nobu, and sources confirmed to People that the pair were seeing each other. However, they kept their relationship private.
“Jamie, especially, is very low-key about his life in general, and rarely talks about it,” a source told People. “He is not one to acknowledge anything about his private life.”
Jamie and Alyce’s split may have been a long time coming. In March 2024, a source exclusively told In Touch that their romance was slowing down as the Rio star returned to work after his recovery.
“She was totally there for him when he got sick, and they got very close after that. But things are starting to fizzle on Jamie’s end,” the insider said. “She’s still in the picture, and they see each other occasionally — but not to the same degree they were.”
The source added that Jamie had cold feet about committing to the Australian fitness model, noting that instead, “he’s back to making work his number one priority again.”
