Jaime King Was ‘Strung Out’ When Caring for Kids, Ex Says

Jaime King’s ex-husband, Kyle Newman, detailed finding the actress “strung out” earlier this month after their children called him for help as part of his plea for a restraining order, In Touch can exclusively report.

In Touch obtained the petition filed by Kyle, 48, on October 23 in Los Angeles Superior Court. Kyle and Jaime, 45, wed in 2007 and finalized their divorce in 2023.

The exes share two sons: James Knight and Leo Thames.

In his petition, Kyle asked that Jaime be ordered to stay away from him and their children. He demanded sole physical custody of their children with Jaime allowed supervised visitation. Kyle also asked that Jaime be ordered to submit to drug and alcohol testing.

As In Touch first reported, Kyle wrote in court documents, “The children are currently in danger when in their mother’s care. Jaime King is suffering from drug and alcohol addiction and is emotionally abusing and neglecting our children; placing them in danger and exposing them to many disturbing people and situations, including sexual content. The children are begging me to help rescue them from the chaos in their mother’s home.”

In his filing, he detailed an incident on October 17 when he claimed to have received a call from their sons while they were in Jaime’s care. He said his sons cried and begged him to pick them up. Kyle said he could hear Jaime’s voice in the background.

“I arrived [at] Jaime’s house around 7:45 a.m. I knocked on the door and was greeted by the boys. I went inside and I saw Jaime sitting on her knees on the floor, wearing a navy blue and white varsity, her hair was in pigtails and she appeared to not be wearing any pants (or maybe had short shorts on). There were two men there.”

Kyle said, “Jaime looked distressed, strung out and was acting drunk. She gestured for me to come over to her because she tried to get up but could not stand.”

Jaime was slurring her words and said, ‘Those are bad boys. We have to do something about our boys. Their behavior is not right.”

Kyle said he noticed their sons were wearing the same clothes they had on the day before at school. Kyle said he asked Jaime if she had been drinking. He said she did not answer. He said he took the boys and left the home.

He said he took them to school where one of the sons reported Jaime’s behaviors to a therapist.

Kyle claimed the therapist called DCFS on Jaime in the past, but no action had been taken. Kyle said Jaime’s boyfriend Tony also text him.

He said Tony told him that he was worried about Jaime and that she should not have the kids around. Kyle said the boys told them Jaime has been partying late with friends. He said when one of the boys tried to call him once Jaime ripped the phone from his hands.

Kyle said Jaime told their son, “Every single word you’ve said since you were born is dangerous.” He claimed she also said, “Everyone in the world will die because of you … especially you.”

In his petition, Kyle also claimed that the boys told him “Jaime and her friends frequently smoke inside the house with the doors and windows closed” with them present.

“The children repeatedly ask her not to and mention the dangers they read about smoking on the American Cancer Society site. One night in June, they opened the door for fresh air. She blew the smoke in both their faces and said, ‘that website is propaganda’ and laughed and continued to smoke inside the house near them and closed the door.”

In addition, he said one of the sons opened Jaime’s phone to find an adult website with an adult video that featured a “pregnant woman and there was a baby nearby.”

“Jaime apparently told [their son] that she wanted him to ‘come back in her womb and cuddle with her’ so she could be as close as possible to him. He is very disturbed by these comments,” he said.

“Our children are in grave danger if Jaime is to resume custody, as she continues to drive them while wholly under the influence, have strange men show up to the house and sends them to sleep in the boys rooms and the children are so petrified that they asked to speak to the judge so that they don’t have to go back to their mother’s house,” the filing read.

Kyle added, “Jaime loves our children and we want her to get help — I am, however, unable to force her to get help and cannot allow our children to be in a constant state of danger and abuse as a result of Jaime’s addiction issues.”

He continued, “Without strong orders, I am afraid that Jaime will continue to game the system — she has been sanctioned twice by two different judges in our family law matter and refuses to follow court orders, like the judgment that requires her to not be intoxicated when the children are in her custody.”

The judge has yet to rule. Jaime has yet to respond.

Jaime filed for divorce from Kyle in May 2020. The split turned ugly quick.

Kyle demanded primary custody of their children due to Jaime’s alleged addiction issues, TMZ reported. He claimed things were so bad that he and her friends staged an intervention.

Kyle said Jaime agreed to go to a rehab facility in Utah but didn’t stay long. Jaime claimed she agreed to check into the facility to prove she was drug-free. A settlement was entered in September 2023. However, the fight is now back on.
