Homeless woman living in LA storm drained identified as mother of 3

The woman who became widely known as the homeless person living in a storm drain in Los Angeles last week has been identified as a mother of three.
Jameelah Robinson, who was once known for her music according to her family, is the woman identified as living in an underground encampment filled with human waste and toxic materials, which the city began clearing.
The mother of three has allegedly refused help from her family, including her mother, who has been in contact with her.
Robinson’s mother, Linda, blamed “drugs” when asked how her daughter may have gotten herself into this situation.
For some family members, like Robinson’s sister Kameelah, it came as a shock.
“When I saw it, it just so happened to be my sister. That’s how I found out about her living situation,” Kameelah told FOX 11 after a friend shared the report with her.
“It’s the second time she’s been in the sewer,” Linda said, adding that in a previous instance, multiple people were living in a single drain.
Since the underground shelter was first discovered, city workers have declared the pit a “hot zone” and sealed it with asphalt. LA city services also offered Jameelah help, but videos shared by FOX 11 show the 43-year-old homeless woman walking away. The family has not heard from her since.
“I’m saddened to see that she just walks away like that,” Kameelah said.
“If it was the daughter, sister, or mother of the mayor, where would they take them?” she told Fox. “Instead of just allowing them to walk away.”
The family says there is not enough enforcement, and more than simply asking or offering help needs to be done.
“Just take her, because she’s not mentally able to think straight for herself,” the distressed mother said.
Robinson’s family recalled that she was once celebrated for her singing, sharing videos from earlier, happier times that sharply contrast with her present condition.
“I couldn’t get the courts to see the mental illness in her. Now the world can see it,” Linda said. “Maybe now I can get the help I need, and she needs.”
