Anaheim woman arrested after puppy intentionally run over in Santa Ana

A 75-year-old woman has been busted after disturbing surveillance footage captured her allegedly luring her own puppy with food and running over it with her minivan last month.

Hahn Nguyen was taken into custody Thursday morning by Santa Ana Police Department and booked at the Santa Ana Jail for animal cruelty and animal abandonment.

Investigators tracked down the suspect using Automated License Plate Reader technology, which led detectives to Nguyen’s home in Anaheim.

She admitted to owning and abandoning her nine-month-old pit bull named “Blackey,” authorities said.

“Investigative leads, primarily using ALPR technology, helped detectives identify the vehicle, locate the suspect, and bring accountability for what happened to Blackey,” the Santa Ana Police Department said in a statement.

The arrest follows a weekslong investigation into an incident that occurred around 9 a.m. on Sept. 8 near 926 W. Park Lane.

Detectives identified her vehicle in connection with the abandonment of her 9-month-old pit bull Blackey.
Nguyen was booked at the Santa Ana Jail in Orange County.

A local resident initially alerted authorities after spotting the dead pit bull in the street, suspecting the dog had been intentionally killed.

After extensive canvassing, detectives recovered home surveillance footage showing a woman arrive in an older-model Honda Odyssey, unload Blackey and set food under the driver’s side of the minivan.

As the puppy ate, Nguyen allegedly moved the vehicle, making the rear driver’s-side tire roll over the pup.
