Murder charges of deputy Katherine Frank

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO) — Two charges of murder have been added to the complaint for Brandon John Oetken, 39, the man accused of killing Minnehaha County Sheriff’s Deputy Katherine Frank.
Oetken is now charged with murder in the first degree of a law enforcement officer and murder in the second degree of a law enforcement officer, according to online court documents. The first degree charge cites premeditated while the second degree murder charge cited depraved mind.
Oetken has an initial court appearance set for 1:30 p.m. Wednesday and held on a $3 million cash bond.
Frank died Monday as a result of a shooting Friday in southwestern Sioux Falls, authorities said.
Oetken is accused of shooting Frank and shooting at other deputies who were at a residence to serve a mental illness hold on Oetken, according to court documents.
The amended complaint also adds four more counts of aggravated assault against a law enforcement officer. It still includes the original charges of three counts of attempted first degree murder of a law enforcement officer and three counts of aggravated assault against a law enforcement officer.
