55-year-old SF man dead, officer injured in shooting

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO) — A Sioux Falls police officer is recovering after being shot while responding to a welfare check Tuesday night.
Police say officers were called to an address in the 3200 block of E. 20th St. just before 10 p.m.
The caller reported hearing gunshots inside the garage of the residence. When officers arrived a person inside the garage opened fire. Officers took cover as the gunfire continued, and one officer was shot.
Officers returned fire and the suspect, identified as 55-year-old James R Meyer of Sioux Falls, died at the scene.
The officer who was shot was taken to the hospital for treatment with serious, non life-threatening injuries.
This is the third officer involved shooting in South Dakota this year.
