Preparations Underway for Trump Visit to Mount Rushmore

Final preparations are underway in the Black Hills as President Donald Trump is scheduled to attend South Dakota’s Freedom 250 Mount Rushmore Fireworks Celebration on July 3, marking the nation’s 250th birthday celebration.
The event will feature Trump’s keynote address, along with appearances by Gov. Larry Rhoden and U.S. Interior Secretary Doug Burgum. The celebration will conclude with the first fireworks display at Mount Rushmore in six years.
Organizers have limited attendance to about 4,800 lottery-selected guests to enhance safety and security. The National Park Service plans to close the memorial to the general public beginning July 2, with access restricted to ticket holders on July 3. Temporary road closures near the monument also are expected as part of security preparations.
A crew of about 30 pyrotechnicians has been preparing the fireworks and lighting displays. State officials say contingency lighting effects are available if environmental conditions prevent fireworks from being used.
The event is expected to draw national attention and large crowds to the Black Hills, with local tourism officials reporting a significant increase in visitors ahead of the celebration.
