California cat lost seven years ago finds its way back to family

A family who lost their beloved cat during a cross-country move has finally welcomed him home, seven years after he vanished.
The Davidsons adopted Dodger in 2016 from Miss Winkles Pet Adoption Center in Clovis, and Amber Davidson said he quickly became part of the family.
In 2018, after the children’s father passed away, they planned to move to Florida and arranged for a friend of a friend to transport their belongings—and Dodger.
Before the journey began, Dodger disappeared without a trace. For years, the family had only questions until a late-night email brought hope back into their lives, according to Your Central Valley.
“It was like 11 o’clock at night… Dodger has been scanned into Fresno TNR,” Davidson said.
Dodger was found in Madera and brought into Fresno Trap and Release for neutering, “like any other cat,” according to Sydney Sherman, who works with the non-profit. But staff quickly realized something was off—he had already been neutered and had a microchip.
When Sherman scanned the chip, it revealed an address far from California.
“I was like, oh my gosh… this isn’t a 559 area code,” she told the outlet.
At this point, the Davidsons had moved again—2,500 miles—to Georgia. As Sherman and Davidson kept in touch, fate intervened. Sherman often traveled to Florida and already had a trip scheduled for March 24.
“I can try to bring him to you guys if you can meet me in Florida,” she said.
The Davidsons made the seven-hour drive and met her at 5 a.m., miraculously reuniting with Dodger after seven years.
“That moment, of ‘He’s finally home, he gets to be with his people again,’” Sherman added. “It’s very special.”
The family held it together—mostly.
“When we were walking away, Schylar was like, ‘Mom, you did so good, you didn’t cry,’” Davidson said.
Sherman said the reunion came down to one small detail that changed everything—Dodger had been microchipped.
