90 Day Fiance’s Colt Admits Mom Debbie Negatively Impacted Romances

90 Day: Hunt for Love star Colt Johnson admitted that his extremely close relationship with his mother, Debbie Johnson, “definitely” impacted his past relationships during an exclusive interview with In Touch.
“I feel like my mother definitely had maybe too much influence on me in my relationships,” Colt, 39, exclusively told In Touch at Us Weekly’s celebration for 90 Day: Hunt for Love in New York City on Monday, May 19. “It’s funny looking back and seeing that now.”
Debbie, 72, and Colt’s close bond has been documented on the 90 Day Fiancé franchise, and fans have seen firsthand how their dynamic has been a deal-breaker in some of his relationships. Both Colt’s first wife, Larissa Dos Santos Lima, and second wife, Vanessa Guerra, previously admitted that they faced issues in their relationships linked to Debbie living with them.
“My mother and I, we have this distance now. More like an understanding,” Colt told In Touch about his current relationship with Debbie. “She has a much more deep and rich life with her boyfriend, so this allows us to focus more on just being like a normal mother son type of dynamic.”
Debbie gave fans an update about her and Colt’s dynamic after she moved to Canada to be with her boyfriend, Tony Starcevich, during a February 2024 episode of 90 Day Diaries.
“Colt and I have had some challenges in our relationship,” she said at the time. “We had a really bad fight a couple of years ago when I first started dating Tony. At the last tell-all, we were able to work things out, so everything has been OK since.”
She went on to share that she and Colt don’t communicate as often as they used to, adding that they mostly stayed in touch via text messages. “Colt and I communicate three or four times a week, mainly in text,” Debbie said. “Sometimes we’ll call. But, I think it’s probably a good thing to have the separation, and we’re good with that.”
While Debbie is currently happy with Tony, Colt is on the hunt to find love following his divorce from Vanessa, 35.
Vanessa confirmed her split from Colt in March 2024 after fans allegedly found his Tinder profile earlier that month. She took to her Instagram Stories to explain that she had left Colt “over a month ago.” Vanessa shut down rumors that Colt cheated on her and insisted that they split because they were not “in love anymore.”
The former couple filed for divorce in April 2024. However, In Touch exclusively confirmed on May 19 that Colt and Vanessa’s divorce case was dismissed without prejudice in May 2024. There was been no refiling since, meaning that the former couple is still legally married.

While he is not yet legally divorced, that doesn’t mean that Colt isn’t open to finding love. Ahead of 90 Day: Hunt for Love premiere, Colt addressed rumors that he’ll be involved in a love triangle with Cortney Reardanz and Usman “SojaBoy” Umar in the spinoff.
“No, that sounds pretty interesting. It does sound Interesting. Sounds like you know more about it than I do,” Colt told In Touch when asked about the potential love triangle.
Cortney, 34, also weighed in, “I heard that rumor too.”
90 Day: The Hunt for Love premieres on TLC Monday, May 26, at 8 p.m. ET.
